(Baonghean.vn) –The steep mountain slopes leading to Dinh Phong village (Tam Dinh commune, Tuong Duong district) provide a natural grazing area ideal for livestock farming, especially mountain goats. Taking advantage of this, six young men from Dinh Phong village boldly invested in goat farming with the dream of escaping poverty.
| This herd of plump, healthy goats belongs to the couple Vi Van Chau (born in 1985). Like the five other young households in Dinh Phong village who share the same goal of escaping poverty through goat farming, they have been raising goats since 2013 under a project supported by the Provincial Youth Union. At that time, he received a loan of 20 million VND to buy four breeding goats. After three years, he has sold five batches, each batch consisting of two to three goats. |
| According to Mr. Chau, raising goats is more profitable than raising buffalo or cows because goat kids mature and become reproductively viable within 7 to 12 months (at this time, the goats will reach a weight of 30-35 kg/each). On average, each female goat gives birth to about 3 offspring per year. Regarding investment in barns, they don't require a large area; he designed them simply, so they are not expensive. |
| Thanks to his goat herd, he was able to get married and build a house last year. This year, he and his wife also bought a motorbike to make traveling and doing business easier. |
| Sharing the joy of escaping poverty with Mr. Chau, Mr. Ngan Van Dan (born in 1987) and his wife, Ms. Lo Thi Thu (born in 1988), started raising 3 breeding goats in 2013, and currently their family's herd has a total of 15 goats. |
| Previously, the couple relied solely on their small plot of upland rice paddies for their livelihood, yielding only 500-600 kg of rice per harvest, despite their best efforts. Now, raising goats—just two—provides them with nearly a ton of rice each year. |
| The market price for goats ranges from 150,000 to 170,000 VND per kilogram (live weight). If not sold for meat, farmers can sell breeding goats; after 4 months, goat kids weighing about 15 kg can be sold as breeding stock. |
| In the village, there are also Vi Van Thieu, Vi Van Ninh, and Kha Van Pan who have achieved success from the goat farming project. Thanks to this income, they have established families, stabilized their lives, provided education for their children, and purchased many amenities and means of production. Pictured is the herd of goats belonging to La Van Quy, the Youth Union Secretary of Dinh Phong village. |

| Through hard work and perseverance, these young men from remote mountainous regions have earned tens of millions of dong annually, not only stabilizing their family's economy but also proving that, by properly utilizing their advantages, mountainous areas also offer opportunities for wealth creation. |
