6 hours to clean 132 White House rooms to welcome Trump

The team of nearly 100 White House staff will have to "race against time" as they only have 6 hours to arrange and prepare all 132 rooms in the White House to welcome the new President's family.

At around 10:30 a.m. on January 20, President Barack Obama, his wife, and their two daughters will have to say goodbye to the place where they have lived for eight years of their term to make way for Donald Trump’s family. Immediately after their departure, White House staff will have to urgently decorate and rearrange this large building to welcome the new owner.

Cleaning crews will move the Obamas' belongings out of trucks through the South Lawn out of the White House, while trucks carrying the Trumps' belongings will drive into the White House in the opposite direction.

“This is like organized chaos,” White House chief of staff Stephen Rochon told CNN on January 1.

On “transition day” on January 20, while the movers were rushing in and out, other areas of the White House were racing against time to get the dining room ready. Chefs were also scrambling to prepare the first light meal for the 45th US President and his family before they held their inauguration party that evening.

Everything on the second and third floors of the White House – the First Family's private residence – could be changed, Mr. Rochon said.

Donald Trump has said he has no plans to redecorate 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in his own lavish style. “This is a very special place… that I’m going to be working in,” he said. “I’m not redecorating.”

As for the “departed” Obama, Mr. Rochon revealed that the 44th US President wanted to bring the special shower head that he had used for many years to his new residence.
