6 reasons why your car is sluggish and not running smoothly

(Baonghean.vn) - The phenomenon of cars showing signs of not being as "healthy" as in the early days comes from many causes. The core comes from irregular maintenance, lack of driving skills... According to auto experts, cars that run sluggishly and are sluggish can be due to the following reasons.

1. Dirty air filter, uneven air supply

Regular driving inevitably has a major impact on air filter clogging. Many car owners often do not pay attention to this, so if left for too long, the amount of air intake will not be enough to create a standard air-fuel mixture, greatly affecting the engine.

According to experts, for all types of car air filters, the periodic cleaning time should be about 5,000km and their replacement time should not exceed 20,000km/time.

2. BWorn fuel pump, leaking pressure regulator

When the fuel pump is worn or the fuel pressure regulator shows signs of leakage, this will cause the fuel pressure from the intake pipe to the combustion chamber to be low, making the ability to generate power no longer effective, leading to a significant decrease in engine power, the vehicle becomes weaker.

3. Clogged fuel filter

If the fuel filter system has problems, it will cause much more damage than the air filter... When the fuel filter is clogged, it will affect the fuel injection system, even causing detonation in the cylinder and stalling on the road.

Normally, car fuel filters will be replaced and maintained every 40,000 km; but if the fuel is not absolutely clean, the safest replacement time is 25,000 km.

4. Due to fuel pressure

Fuel pressure is responsible for keeping the pressure difference between the fuel in the distribution pipe and the air inside the intake manifold at a constant value. Then the ECU controls the injector to open at a certain time and sprays out the same amount of fuel as the ECU "calculates". If the pressure difference is different (due to a broken pressure regulator), when the injector is opened at the same time, the amount of fuel sprayed out will be different from the calculation.

This will cause excess or lack of gasoline, making the engine unstable, leading to the car running sluggishly.

5. Corroded spark plugs (for gasoline engines)

Before combustion, which means at the end of the compression stroke, the fuel is compressed to its peak and the spark plug begins to ignite to generate power. At this time, the fuel that needs to be burned must receive a large amount of energy from the spark plug electrode gap so that they can operate at full capacity.

However, during operation, the gap between these two electrodes is also corroded, causing the spark to no longer be highly efficient, reducing the combustion process capacity.

6. Ignition timing is incorrect

When the engine is running and there is a phenomenon of detonation when the throttle is high, the idle mode is unstable, the vehicle consumes a lot of fuel, the engine heats up quickly, and sometimes there is a phenomenon like backfire. That is a sign that the ignition is too early.

When the ignition system creates a spark too late compared to the time the engine needs, it often causes phenomena such as high engine temperature, explosions in the exhaust pipe because the gasoline is not burned completely and continues to burn when it goes out the exhaust pipe, causing fuel consumption, the engine is "overwhelmed" with gasoline because it is not burned in time, making the car unable to accelerate. In addition, the engine is difficult to start.
