6 Russian bombers bomb rebels in Syria
A group of six Russian Tu-22M3 bombers on November 1 bombed rebel targets in Syria, destroying many weapons depots and shelters.
The airstrike took place in the vicinity of Abu Kamal city, Deir ez-Zor province, which is believed to be the last major stronghold of the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) in southeastern Syria, according toRT.
"The rebels' shelters, ammunition and weapons depots were the targets of the airstrikes. The object control system recorded that all designated targets were hit," a statement from the Russian Defense Ministry said.
The Tu-22M3 strategic bombers took off from Russia and arrived in Syria via Iraqi and Iranian airspace, the Defense Ministry stressed. A group of Su-30SM fighters based at Russia’s Khmeimim air base in western Syria provided cover. All aircraft later returned safely to base, completing the mission.
On October 31, the Russian submarine Veliky Novgorod also launched a series of Kalibr cruise missiles at the Abu Kemal area, killing rebel fighters, destroying many command posts and large weapons depots.
