6 months, 7 people died in railway traffic accidents

Nghe An has 2 railway lines passing through, the Thong Nhat railway line and the Cau Giat - Nghia Dan railway line with a total length of 126 km of main road, passing through 50 communes and wards of 5 districts, 2 towns and Vinh city.Currently, the province has 80 level crossings (including 28 level crossings with guards, 9 level crossings protected by automatic warnings, 43 level crossings protected by signs), and 233 residential roads crossing railways.

There are currently 37 illegal housing sites and 89 illegal outbuildings in the province. The violations are mainly historical ones that have not been cleared. The localities with many violations are Nghi Kim commune, Vinh city and Thai Hoa town.

According to statistics from the authorities, in 2014 there were 14 railway traffic accidents that killed 15 people and injured 4. In the first 6 months of 2015, there were 9 railway traffic accidents that killed 7 people and injured 2 people. Compared to the same period, the number of accidents decreased by 25% and the number of deaths decreased by 36.3%. In addition, in 2014 there were 15 cases of cars crashing into railways and colliding with people at level crossings, and in the first 6 months of 2015 there were 2 cases. The main cause of accidents was pedestrians and drivers of road vehicles not paying attention to trains when passing through level crossings (accounting for 55% of the cases).

Cao Minh Phuong, head of the provincial police department for road and railway traffic, said that although the number of railway traffic accidents has decreased in the first 6 months of the year, the rate of railway traffic accidents in Nghe An is still high compared to the whole country. |
At the meeting, delegates also evaluated the results of implementing the coordination regulations between the Ministry of Transport and the People's Committee of Nghe An province on ensuring traffic safety and order at intersections between roads and railways according to coordination regulations No. 06/QCPH - BGTVT - Provincial People's Committee dated March 15, 2013.According to the assessment, the level crossings with roads are national highways and provincial roads managed by the road sub-departments, and the existing problems with roads and railways have basically been repaired. However, the level crossings with roads are district roads and commune roads, and the problems under the responsibility of the road management unit have not been resolved./.
