60 real estate projects are applying to be converted into social housing.

According to the Ministry of Construction, to date, 60 projects nationwide have registered to convert from commercial housing to social housing, with a total construction scale of 38,897 apartments. Of these, Hanoi has 24 projects that will convert from commercial housing to social housing, with a construction scale of 15,468 apartments and a total investment of over 9,300 billion VND.

Ho Chi Minh City has 25 projects registered to convert from commercial housing to social housing, with a construction scale of 15,115 units and a total investment of approximately 9,000 billion VND. In addition, 74 real estate projects have registered to adjust the apartment structure, reducing the size to better suit market demand. The initial number of 33,867 large-sized apartments is being adjusted to 44,881 smaller apartments.

Notably, the Ministry of Construction has just proposed that the Government consider allowing the social housing sector in general, and the project "Building a pilot investment model for social housing in some key localities in Vietnam" in particular, to utilize official development assistance (ODA) and preferential loans. The overall goal of the project is to support the development of social housing programs; to promote investment in social housing construction to ensure that housing needs for low-income groups in urban areas are met from now until 2020.
