With a budget of 600 million VND, should I choose a Mazda2 or a Honda City?

With their unique advantages and a price tag of around 600 million VND, the Mazda2 and Honda City 2015 are worthy contenders in the fiercely competitive B-segment sedan market in Vietnam.

Officially launched by Thaco in Da Nang on July 10th as a completely built-up import from Thailand, the 2015 Mazda2, in both sedan and hatchback versions, has stirred up the automotive market, especially in the already heated B-segment.

With its full Kodo design, Skyactiv technology, and a host of modern features that are not far behind its older sibling, the Mazda3, but surpass rivals like the Toyota Vios and Honda City, plus an attractive price, the Mazda2 is causing a sensation among Vietnamese customers...

Mazda2 is causing a sensation in the B-segment.

The newly launched 2015 Mazda2 in Vietnam is the completely new fourth generation, with overall dimensions of 4,320 x 1,695 x 1,470 mm (length x width x height) for the sedan version and 4,060 x 1,695 x 1,470 mm for the hatchback version, along with a wheelbase of 2,570 mm, ground clearance of 143 mm and a turning radius of 4.7 meters.

At the heart of the new Mazda2 is a 1.5-liter Skyactiv engine, producing a maximum power of 109 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 141 Nm at 4,000 rpm, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and, notably, the i-Stop intelligent stop-start system.

Meanwhile, the 2016 City boasts nine notable new features, including power-folding rearview mirrors; a push-button start interior; a smart key system with remote trunk opening; and a steering wheel with integrated audio controls. A new red color option is also available.

The 2016 City adds more safety features.

However, the more impressive highlight of the 2015 City is the addition of new safety systems such as Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) and Hill Start Assist (HSA). These features help the 2015 City achieve the highest safety standard – a 5-star rating from ASEAN-NCAP. Notably, the price is only 5 million VND higher for the CVT automatic version, selling for 604 million VND, which also makes this model very attractive.
