SickdiabetesDiabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic, progressive disease. High and persistent blood sugar levels are the main cause of dangerous complications that affect the lives of patients, such as: eye damage leading to blindness; kidney failure; foot infections, and limb amputation. In particular, cardiovascular complications such as hypertension, stroke, and myocardial infarction are the leading causes of death for diabetic patients.
According to statistics from the World Diabetes Federation: Every day, 3,600 new cases of diabetes are diagnosed worldwide, 580 people die, 225 people have limbs amputated, 120 people develop end-stage renal failure, and 55 people become blind due to diabetes.

In Nghe An, according to the investigation results ofNghe An Endocrinology HospitalIn 2010, the diabetes prevalence rate in the province was 5.36%, and by 2020 it had increased to 7.2%. These are truly alarming figures. The rise in diabetes has become a burden on healthcare, harming the socio-economic development achievements of all countries.
However, clinical studies and community interventions worldwide, regionally, and in Vietnam have demonstrated that diabetes is preventable through proper nutrition, maintaining an ideal weight, and increasing physical activity.
"World Diabetes Day, November 14th" was proposed in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation and the World Health Organization to raise awareness about the increasing risk of diabetes. This year's World Diabetes Day, November 14th, carries the message "Nursing and Diabetes," aiming to raise awareness of the crucial role of nurses in supporting people with diabetes.
