Apple is preparing to introduce the 17th generation of iPhones with a host of significant changes, promising to reshape the user experience. From design and camera to performance, here are 7 of the most worthwhile upgrades that tech enthusiasts can't miss.

Event "Awe DroppingApple's "Finals" will officially take place on September 9th, where the Cupertino-based tech giant is expected to announce the next generation of iPhones along with many other noteworthy products.

According to the roadmap, Apple will continue to push the iPhone further in design, performance, and features, delivering many things that users expect. The main focus is the iPhone 17 series, with upgrades considered groundbreaking, especially the introduction of the completely new model called the iPhone 17 Air.

1. New generation A19 chip

Previously, the iPhone 16 impressed with its A18 chip, a powerful processor proven through performance reviews. However, the iPhone 17 promises to be even better, as Apple plans to equip it with the new generation A19 SoC, utilizing the third-generation 3nm process from TSMC, the world's leading semiconductor manufacturer. This technology not only increases transistor density but also improves performance and energy efficiency far beyond the A18.

Notably, many analysts believe Apple will continue to segment its chips, with the standard iPhone 17 models using the A18, while the iPhone 17 Pro will be equipped with the more powerful A19 Pro. To cope with the heat generated by this high-end chip, Apple is also rumored to be developing a vapor chamber cooling system; however, this feature may be limited to the Pro models.

2. iPhone 17 Air

One of the most significant changes in iPhone history was the introduction of the iPhone 17 Air. This was considered Apple's first ultra-thin premium smartphone, seen as its answer to the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge in the slim and lightweight design segment.

Unlike the fleeting rumors surrounding the iPhone 16 Ultra, information about the iPhone 17 Air has been circulating since before the iPhone 16 launch and is becoming increasingly credible, especially with the iOS 26 beta revealing several clues supporting the existence of this model. According to sources, the iPhone 17 Air will officially replace the iPhone 16 Plus in Apple's product lineup.

In terms of design, the rumored iPhone 17 Air is only 5.56mm thick, making it one of the thinnest smartphones ever, and it comes with a 6.6-inch screen and the power of the A19 chip – the next-generation chip that will appear on the entire iPhone 17 lineup.

However, to achieve this impressive thinness, Apple may have to compromise on the camera system; leaked renders show that the iPhone 17 Air will only have a single rear camera, similar to the basic iPhone 17 version.

Another noteworthy point is battery capacity. Current rumors suggest the iPhone 17 Air will have a 2,800 mAh battery, a rather modest figure compared to the Pro models. However, many reports claim Apple is testing new battery technology to increase energy density, aiming to extend usage time despite the smaller capacity.

Regarding pricing, Apple has not yet made any confirmation, but many sources predict the basic iPhone 17 Air will have a starting price of between $899 and $1,099. This price could be on par with the iPhone 16 Plus or even slightly higher than the standard iPhone 16 Pro, reflecting Apple's ambition to position the iPhone 17 Air as both an iconic product and a target for the premium customer segment.

3. C1 5G Modem

Earlier this year, Apple garnered attention by officially launching its in-house C1 5G modem alongside the more affordable iPhone 16e. This was a strategic move to reduce reliance on Qualcomm and usher in an era of wireless connectivity self-reliance. According to several sources, the C1 modem will continue to be featured in the iPhone 17 Air, while other iPhone 17 models may still use a different solution.

The strength of the C1 modem lies in its ability to deliver 5G speeds comparable to high-end iPhone models, even without supporting mmWave – a super-fast but less common technology.

In return, this modem is considered to have better energy efficiency, a significant advantage for the iPhone 17 Air, which uses a smaller battery. Apple's design of the modem also means deeper integration into the system, optimizing both hardware and software.

In fact, initial tests showed that the C1 modem was more stable and energy-efficient, aligning with Apple's goals. However, this is just the beginning, as the company is reportedly developing the next generation, the C2, which is expected to be available across the entire iPhone lineup by 2026.

Meanwhile, all iPhone 17 models will be upgraded to Apple's Wi-Fi 7 modem. This technology promises improved transmission speeds, reduced latency, and optimized connectivity, especially in the context of more and more smart devices sharing a single Wi-Fi network.

4. The new iOS 26 operating system

Throughout the summer, Apple continuously released beta updates of iOS 26, which will almost certainly be the default operating system on the iPhone 17 series. The biggest highlight is the new Liquid Glass interface, which brings a unified and modern look to all of Apple's software.

Although Apple Intelligence is not yet fully implemented, iOS 26 still integrates a range of notable AI features such as intelligent call screening within the phone app, real-time live translation, and significant improvements to Visual Intelligence – helping devices better understand and process images.

However, one disappointing point is that Siri won't receive any major upgrades until spring 2026, meaning users will have to wait longer to see a real transformation of the virtual assistant.

5. Qi 2.2 wireless charging

A new report reveals that Apple is quietly developing a next-generation silicon-carbon battery, promising superior performance and durability compared to current batteries, without increasing the physical size of the device. This could be a significant step in addressing the battery capacity limitations on ultra-thin devices like the iPhone 17 Air.

Alongside the new battery technology, the iPhone 17 series is expected to support the Qi 2.2 wireless charging standard, allowing for fast charging up to 50W, more than three times faster than the Qi 2 standard (15W) and far exceeding the 30W of MagSafe charging on the iPhone 16.

In particular, Qi 2.2 offers more precise magnetic alignment, helping the iPhone stay firmly attached to the charging base, optimizing the charging process for faster and safer charging.

6. Redesigned camera array

According to leaked reports, the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air will not have many changes to the camera, but the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max promise to create a significant difference in both hardware and design.

Rumors suggest that Apple will upgrade the telephoto lens to 48MP, bringing the total number of rear cameras on the Pro line to 48MP. However, this may limit the optical zoom capability to 3.5x, lower than the 5x zoom on the iPhone 16 Pro.

The biggest highlight lies in the completely new camera module design. Instead of the familiar square block, Apple is reportedly switching to a horizontal rectangular camera module, similar to the camera bar style on the Google Pixel 10.

In the new layout, the three main lenses are still arranged in a triangle in the left corner, but the additional sensors will be moved to the right, creating a more balanced and modern feel.

Leaked images of iPhone 17 Pro cases further reinforce the possibility that Apple is preparing to change its camera design language – a rare move after years of maintaining the same style.

7. Upgrade your RAM capacity.

Currently, the entire iPhone 16 lineup is equipped with 8GB of RAM – an upgrade considered "late," primarily aimed at meeting the processing demands of Apple Intelligence.

However, as Apple increasingly focuses on AI on its devices, this amount of RAM is quickly becoming limited. According to leaked information, the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air will likely retain 8GB of RAM, sufficient for general needs but unlikely to offer a significant difference compared to the previous generation.

Meanwhile, the highlight is expected to be the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max series with 12GB of RAM. This is not just an increase on paper, but also opens up the potential for improved multitasking performance, image processing capabilities, and acceleration for complex AI tasks.

Analysts believe that upgrading RAM is a "necessary step" for Apple if the company wants to maintain its competitive edge in the era of smartphones optimized for artificial intelligence.
