7 "taboos" while driving a car
(Baonghean.vn) - When driving a car, you will unconsciously form a few driving habits; these seemingly simple habits can cause unpredictable disasters when participating in traffic... Let's identify and find useful advice to correct these bad habits.
1. Do not play music too loud in the car

When driving, you need to concentrate, pay attention to outside noises on the road such as the sudden braking of the car in front or the siren of the ambulance. Therefore, do not turn up the speakers too loud, the sound should only be loud enough for passengers to hear. |
2. Do not stop in another vehicle's blind spot.

If you are lining up alongside the rear tires of another vehicle’s trailer, flash your lights or give some kind of signal to let the driver in that vehicle know you are behind them. If you are in the blind spot of a long vehicle, you will not have time to react when they change lanes or turn right/left. |
3. Do not use headlights when it is foggy.

In foggy conditions, the light from your headlights will illuminate all the water vapor molecules in the air, the refraction of light into the tiny water droplets makes your visibility worse. Turn on your fog lights or low beams, enough to let other drivers know there is a car coming from the opposite direction. |
4. Don't stare at the car in front.

Sometimes when you are concentrating on driving on the road and accidentally look at the car in front, something suddenly appears behind that car (pothole, obstacle on the road…) that makes you startled can cause an accident. The advice is to scan the entire width of the road, trying to look up at the car in front of it. Or at least in the space between the cars, so you can anticipate what is ahead. |
5. Do not brake continuously when going downhill.
![]() |
When the car goes downhill, the heat from the brake pads is transmitted back, causing the brake fluid to boil. The bad consequence is losing the brakes at the end of the downhill section. At that time, the speed will increase due to inertia while the brakes do not "work", which is extremely dangerous. |
6. Braking in a corner is a deadly mistake.
![]() |
While cornering, the driver always thinks that braking will slow down the vehicle and make the cornering easier. Few people know that, in fact, when cornering, braking will make the wheels much more difficult to control... Moreover, in a short corner, you do not have enough time to calculate the weight on the vehicle. If the vehicle is too heavy, the inertia will be large, making braking while cornering even more dangerous. |
7. Do not place your hands at the 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock positions.

Holding the steering wheel at 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock is a very common and extremely dangerous habit that can lead to unpredictable consequences. If the airbag deploys in a collision, the force of the explosion can break your fingers. 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock are the correct hand positions when driving. |
