1. Chinese general hangs himself while being investigated for corruption

General Zhang Yang, a former member of the Central Military Commission of the Communist Party of China, hanged himself at his home in Beijing. The information was announced by the Central Military Commission of China on November 28, according to Xinhua News Agency.
Mr. Zhang committed suicide while he was being investigated by Chinese authorities for his links to two former senior corrupt officials in the Chinese military, General Guo Boxiong and Xu Caihou.
Mr. Zhang Yang, 66 years old this year, was the director of the Political Work Department of the Central Military Commission. He also served as the director of the General Political Department of the Chinese military.
According to the Central Military Commission of China, on August 28, the agency decided to hold a "talk" with Mr. Truong to investigate his involvement with two former Vice Chairmen of the Central Military Commission, surnamed Guo and Xu.
Investigators said General Zhang had previously committed serious violations of discipline and the law. He was also suspected of giving and receiving bribes and holding a large amount of assets from unidentified sources.
2. Greece arrests 9 people suspected of involvement in terrorism

Greek police on November 28 raided and arrested nine suspects, including eight men and one woman, just before Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan visited the country, according to Reuters.
The suspects are Afghan and Kurdish. Police found bottles containing unidentified explosive materials, detonators and laptops in the apartments.
A Greek police officer said authorities were verifying the group’s links to the DHKP/C, a militant group believed to be behind a series of attacks and suicide bombings in Turkey since 1990.
3. South Korea resumes trial of former President Park Geun-hye in absentia

On November 28, after more than 40 days of interruption, the South Korean court resumed the trial of former President Park Geun-Hye, but without the defendant appearing.
Former President Park has been in custody since March on corruption and other charges. Her trial began in May.
Last month, the Seoul Central District Court decided to extend her detention for another six months, and Park refused to appear in court to protest the decision.
Ms. Park's lawyers also withdrew from the trial in protest of the court's decision. The court later reappointed five lawyers to defend Ms. Park, but she refused to meet them.
In a related development, the Athens news agency quoted a police officer as saying that those arrested had no links to domestic terrorist groups or the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS).
4. Indonesia extends Bali airport closure by 24 hours

Indonesia's Ministry of Transport said on November 28 that it will extend the closure of Bali's Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport by another 24 hours.
Many flight routes have been covered by volcanic ash, according to a report from the Indonesian Transport Ministry, the ministry said in a statement.
Bali airport, 60km from Mount Agung, will be closed until 7am on November 29. Local authorities have provided a list of 10 alternative airports for airlines to divert to, including neighboring provinces.
5. Saudi Arabia executes 7 people in one day

Saudi Arabia's SPA news agency reported that the country executed six Yemeni citizens convicted of murder and robbery and a Saudi man for drug smuggling on November 28.
The Yemeni nationals were found guilty of forming a gang that killed two men and a woman in three separate attacks at their homes in Assir province, SPA reported, citing a statement from the Saudi Interior Ministry.
In each attack, the perpetrators took money and other items, according to the statement. They were executed in the city of Abha, the capital of Assir province in southern Saudi Arabia.
6. New Kenyan President Kenyatta pledges to unite the country

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta pledged on November 28 to become a leader for all people and work to unify the country after an election process that has plunged the East African nation into political turmoil for months.
Speaking at his inauguration ceremony in front of tens of thousands of supporters, President Kenyatta vowed to spend his time and energy "building bridges" to unify and bring prosperity to the country.
Mr Kenyatta won the Kenyan presidential election held on October 26, after the leader of the opposition National Alliance Party (NASA) Raila Odinga withdrew, saying the election was unfair and needed change.
7. Mrs. Hillary unexpectedly advised Mr. Trump on the North Korea issue

Speaking at the three-day annual conference of Caijing Magazine on November 28, the former US Secretary of State called on US President Donald Trumpand Chinese President Xi Jinping to avoid "intimidation" and "personal insults" when dealing with North Korea.
Hillary criticized the Trump administration for moving away from diplomacy in recent months and she hoped China would not follow this path.
While focusing mainly on the US stance on North Korea, Hillary also said that China is taking the wrong approach and making the situation worse by "secretly" strengthening its military, the NY Post reported.
Hillary Clinton expressed hope that the six-party talks – multilateral negotiations between the US, China, Japan, Russia, South Korea and North Korea on nuclear disarmament – which have been stalled since 2009 will be revived.
