7 months of sleepless nights due to giant lung abscess
(Baonghean.vn) - On April 14, patient Tran Dinh Linh (born in 1978, in Hoang Mai town) was discharged from the hospital, ending 7 consecutive months of sleepless nights due to coughing up blood.
Previously, on March 7, Nghe An General Hospital admitted patient Tran Dinh Linh with chest pain and continuous coughing up of phlegm mixed with fresh blood.
After a period of treatment at the hospital, doctors discovered many large cavitary lesions in the lower lobe of the right lung, containing fluid in the cavities. It was determined that patient Tran Dinh Linh had a large abscess in the lower lobe of the right lung, requiring surgery.

After undergoing a dangerous lung surgery, the patient was "freed" by doctors from the Thoracic Surgery Department from a state of exhaustion, high fever, and loss of strength due to continuous coughing up of blood.

Dr. Ho Thai Phuc, Department of Thoracic Surgery, the main surgeon of the surgery, said: “With a size of 20x20cm, this is the largest lung abscess we have ever encountered. The abscess can form due to a secondary infection of the bronchial cyst, which gradually contains a large pus pocket over time, causing damage to the entire lower lobe of the right lung. Surgery to completely remove the entire lower lobe of the lung is the best solution to save the life and improve the quality of life for patient Linh.”
After the surgery, the patient recovered quickly. However, he still had to stay in the hospital for intensive treatment and physical recovery.
Since the surgery, the coughing up of blood and pus has stopped. Mr. Linh has regained his ability to eat well and sleep soundly after 7 months of exhaustion.
