8 ways North Korea avoids UN sanctions
(Baonghean.vn) -The United Nations has just passed the strongest sanctions yet against North Korea in response to Pyongyang's pursuit of its sixth nuclear test. However, Pyongyang still has measures to "evade" those sanctions.
1. Exchange of goods

North Korea directly exchanges coal and other minerals for essential goods, such as weapons components and luxury goods. This avoids the risk of disclosure from money transfers. Pictured: A mine in Musan in North Hamgyong Province, North Korea. Photo: Reuters. |
2. Smuggling

Smugglers from other countries, such as China, turn off their ships' radio signals when they enter North Korean waters, then pick up North Korean goods to ship to another country, such as Russia. They then claim that the goods were produced in Russia. In the photo: North Korea smuggles a large amount of seafood into China every night. Photo: Internet |

4. Labor export

Labor exports and overseas projects help fund the weapons program: There are about 100,000 North Koreans working around the world, bringing in about $500 million in revenue for Pyongyang. The Mansudae Overseas Projects Group, a group of North Korean construction companies, also brings in foreign currency for the country.
