Aquaculture production is estimated at 2,075 thousand tons. Export turnover for the first eight months reached 4.0 billion USD.

According to a report by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the estimated seafood production in August reached 200,000 tons, equivalent to 95% of the same period in 2012.

Fishing in August was unfavorable due to two consecutive typhoons hitting the country; many vessels had to seek shelter, limiting fishing time. According to reports, many vessels had to stay ashore during the peak fishing season. However, some provinces such as Binh Thuan had a good anchovy catch, and Da Nang's offshore pelagic fishing was quite effective...

From the beginning of the year to the end of August, the estimated seafood production reached 1,728 thousand tons, an increase of 4.2% compared to the same period in 2012. Of this, marine fishing in the first eight months was estimated at 1,611 thousand tons, an increase of 4.3% compared to the same period in 2012.

The catch of ocean tuna continues to decline due to rising fuel prices, high fishing costs, and a sharp drop in tuna prices, resulting in many vessels incurring losses. In the same period of 2012, fishermen in Phu Yen, Binh Dinh, and Khanh Hoa provinces, practicing the traditional longline fishing method, achieved large catches, with selling prices ranging from 180,000 to 200,000 VND/kg, and at times reaching 220,000 VND/kg for grade 1 ocean tuna.

However, this year, despite fishing during the same period, the tuna catch is lower than last year, and the selling price is only 120,000 to 130,000 VND/kg for grade 1 fish.

According to reports from localities, the estimated output of ocean tuna in the first 8 months of the year in Phu Yen province reached approximately 4,130 tons, a decrease of 31.4% compared to the same period last year; Binh Dinh province's estimated output reached 6,201 tons, a decrease of 22.8% compared to the same period last year; and Khanh Hoa province's estimated output reached 2,500 tons.

Cultivating 2,075 thousand tons of aquatic products.

Aquaculture production in August is estimated at 294,000 tons, an increase of 3.3% compared to the same period last year, bringing the total aquaculture production for the first eight months of the year to an estimated 2,075 thousand tons, an increase of 0.8% compared to the same period.

Of that total, pangasius fish production in the first eight months is estimated at 647,000 tons, corresponding to a farming area of approximately 5,500 hectares.

According to reports from localities in the Mekong Delta, pangasius fish production in some provinces continues to decline sharply compared to the same period last year.

The price of raw pangasius fish showed an upward trend in August, according to a report.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vinh Long province, the price of pangasius fish in August increased by 800 VND/kg compared to July, fluctuating from 19,500-21,800 VND/kg. However, compared to the production cost of 23,000-24,000 VND/kg, farmers are still losing 2,000-3,000 VND/kg.

Unlike the gloomy situation in pangasius production, the output of tiger shrimp and whiteleg shrimp in the first eight months of 2013 in many localities increased compared to the same period last year.

According to a report from the Long An Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the current prices of commercial shrimp are as follows: Whiteleg shrimp (60-70 shrimp/kg) range from 130,000 to 135,000 VND/kg; tiger shrimp (40-50 shrimp/kg) range from 200,000 to 205,000 VND/kg.

For shrimp farms where shrimp are harvested at the correct age, farmers earn an average profit of 60-100 million VND/ha; for farms where shrimp are harvested early due to disease (average farming time of 2 months), farmers earn a profit of 10-20 million VND/ha, with a few households breaking even.

Exports reached $4 billion.

Seafood exports in August are estimated at $591 million, bringing the total export value for the first eight months of the year to $4.0 billion, a 1.3% increase compared to the same period last year.

The United States remains Vietnam's largest seafood export market, accounting for 20.9% of total export value. In the first seven months of the year, exports to this market reached US$712.31 million, an increase of 6.1% compared to the same period last year.

Exports to China, Canada, and Thailand also saw significant growth, increasing by 52.7%, 6.8%, and 9.6% respectively compared to the same period in 2012. Exports declined in markets such as Japan (down 1%), South Korea (down 19.1%), and Spain (down 11.5%).
