8 young men colluded to 'eat' nearly 30 tons of steel at the construction site of a trillion-dollar project
(Baonghean.vn) - Hired by the company to work as steel structure installation workers at the construction site, a group of young men colluded with each other to steal 30 tons of steel and take it out of the construction site.
On June 20, the People's Court of Quy Hop district opened a first-instance public trial of the criminal case against the defendants Cao Van Nam, Cao Van Viet, Cao Van Vuong, Cao Minh Tuan for the crime of "Theft of property" and Tran Sy Tinh, Ho Mau An, Nguyen Van Kim, Tran Van Phuc for the crime of "Receiving property obtained by others through crime".
According to the indictment, Dai Dung Central Steel Structure Joint Stock Company signed contracts to construct the packages "manufacture, supply and install pig cages and pens" and "manufacture, supply and install steel structures" for the concentrated pig farm project of Massan Nutri Farm Company Limited in Con Son hamlet, Ha Son commune (Quy Hop). The company had nearly 30 tons of various types of steel stolen by thieves, worth 900 million VND.

The investigation process has verified that the subjects Cao Van Nam, Cao Van Viet, Cao Van Vuong, Cao Minh Tuan, all residing in Chinatown (Nghia Xuan - Quy Hop), are workers hired by Dai Dung Central Company and committed property thefts from January to March 2018.
Specifically, Nam and Vuong committed 15 thefts of nearly 12 tons of steel. Viet and Tuan committed 13 thefts of steel with Nam and Vuong with 11.3 tons of steel. The stolen steel was sold to Phuc, Kim and An for more than 89 million VND. Phuc bought it 3 times, Kim bought it 4 times, An bought it 8 times and Tinh bought it once from An. At the investigation agency, the subjects honestly confessed all their crimes.
Based on the evidence and documents examined at the trial; based on the results of the debate at the trial on the basis of full and comprehensive consideration of the evidence and opinions of the Prosecutor, the defendant and other participants in the proceedings.
The panel sentenced the defendants Cao Van Nam to 7 years and 6 months in prison, Cao Van Vuong to 7 years and 4 months in prison, and Cao Van Viet to 7 years in prison, all for the crime of “Theft of property” under Clause 3, Article 173 of the Penal Code. The defendants Tran Sy Tinh to 12 months in prison, Ho Mau An to 15 months in prison, Nguyen Van Kim to 10 months in prison, and Tran Van Phu to 6 months in prison for the crime of “Receiving property obtained by others through crime”, and defendant Cao Minh Tuan: non-custodial reform, with a probation period of 12 months.
Regarding civil liability, the defendants involved, including Nam, Viet, Vuong, Tuan Tinh, An, Kim and Phuc, are required to compensate Mr. Le Tat Thanh (authorized representative of Dai Dung Central Company) with more than 41 million VND.
