827 O Du ethnic students in Nghe An received support from the education development project

(Baonghean.vn) - 827 students of the O Du ethnic group in Nghe An province received support from the Project on Education Development for Ethnic Minorities in the period 2010-2015.

Recently, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) held a conference to summarize 5 years of implementing the Project on Education Development for Ethnic Minorities, 2010-2015 period.

This project aims to create conditions for quantitative development and improve the quality of education for children, pupils and students of very small ethnic groups; contribute to the preservation and development of ethnic groups and equality in education. The project is applied to 9 ethnic groups with a population of less than 4,000 people, accordingly, Nghe An has the O Du ethnic group as the subject of the project along with the following ethnic groups: Pu Peo, Si La, Ro Mam, Cong, Brau, Bo Y, Mang, Co Lao in the provinces of Ha Giang, Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Kon Tum.

According to the assessment after 5 years of implementation, the project has basically completed the set objectives, school facilities, teaching equipment and materials at schools with very few ethnic minority students have been invested in and built; the capacity of the management team and teachers has been improved; children, pupils and students of these ethnic groups have been able to study and train in a good educational environment, enjoy special care and nurturing; create opportunities for them to study with increasingly improved quality, contributing to the implementation of equity in education.

During the 5 years of implementing the project, 13,655 children, pupils and students from ethnic minorities have benefited from the support policy. (Including: Ha Giang: 1,951 children, Lai Chau: 8,085 children, Kon Tum: 489 children, Lao Cai: 1,064 children, Dien Bien: 1,239 children, Nghe An: 827 children). The total support budget is over 110 billion VND.

By the end of October 2015, localities had built 96 classrooms, 86 teacher service rooms and invested in teaching equipment for primary schools with very small ethnic minority students. Compared to the set target, the number of classrooms built reached 89.72%, the number of teacher service rooms reached 77.48%. Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Nghe An provinces completed 100% of the construction of classrooms, Lai Chau and Kon Tum provinces completed 100% of the construction of public houses.

The rate of mobilizing children and students of ethnic groups to go to school has increased. By the 2014-2015 school year, the rate of mobilizing 5-year-old children to go to class reached 100%, primary level reached 99.77%, secondary level reached 98.83%. Many ethnic groups such as Co Lao, Pu Peo, Bo Y in Ha Giang, Cong in Lai Chau, Si La in Dien Bien, Brau in Kon Tum have mobilized 100% of students to go to school at all 3 levels.

Although the dropout rate at all levels has decreased compared to before the implementation of the Project, the dropout rate in some localities is still high. Specifically, in the 2014-2015 school year, the Cong ethnic group in Dien Bien had a dropout rate of 6.5% among secondary school students, the O Du ethnic group in Nghe An had a dropout rate of 3.3% among secondary school students, 5.5% among high school students, and the Ro Mam ethnic group in Kon Tum had a dropout rate of 6.7% among high school students...
