9 years in prison for village boy who killed someone after traffic accident

(Baonghean.vn) - On June 7, the Provincial People's Court opened the first instance criminal trial of the "Murder" case against Can Van Hieu (born in 1996), residing in Chau Hoan commune, Quy Chau.

According to the indictment, on the evening of January 26, 2017, Truong Van Hoi, Can Van Hieu and some friends went out for a beer. When they were leaving, they were hit by Ly Van Banh's motorbike, leading to an argument between the two sides.

Being beaten by Ly Van Banh with a nunchaku, Can Van Hieu took out a switchblade from his pocket and stabbed Banh in the stomach, causing his death.

After the incident, Hieu's family compensated the victim's family 45.5 million VND.

At the trial, Can Van Hieu admitted to the crime as stated in the indictment. Considering the case as a whole, the panel sentenced Can Van Hieu to 9 years in prison and ordered the defendant to compensate the victim's family 60.5 million VND.
