Choose an all-boys school so you won't be distracted by the opposite sex.
After successfully winning a series of prestigious scholarships from American universities, Canh Hao finally decided to study at Wabash College (Indiana, USA). Wabash College is a private, all-male institution that offers bachelor of arts degrees in many majors. This school also agrees to grant a limited number of Presidential scholarships to international students with excellent academic records.
It is known that during his studies in the US, Canh Hao was fully covered by the school for his tuition and accommodation, as well as given the opportunity to work part-time with an income of about 4,500 USD/semester. However, in addition to these enviable benefits, he also revealed a very interesting reason for deciding to study at this school: studying at an all-boys school, he was not distracted by trying to impress the opposite sex.

In addition, the serious, international-standard learning environment attracted this talented guy to this place. “Wabash College is one of the schools with a stressful learning environment, requiring students to really try their best. The number of students at the school is not large, which means that a class has a maximum of 20 people, a minimum of 10 people, so the professors pay a lot of attention to the students. The student support system is also very good, including thesis correction, tutoring, work skills training, ...” – Hao shared.

Besides, he also said that studying in the US is quite stressful, most of the time has to be invested in studying and sometimes there is no time for oneself. “At Wabash, there is only one way to graduate, which is to study, study, study and study. Cheating is not allowed, late submission of papers means no chance for explanation, everything happens according to a process with no second chances, so it is quite stressful and serious. I also do not have much free time for myself.”
Americans are kind and friendly
When sharing about daily life and culture in the United States, Canh Hao seemed quite interested, especially the compliments for kind Americans. “At Wabash School, there is a rule that all male students must be friendly and kind. I am also open-minded so I am close to some native friends, I also have a foster family here, so basically I do not have any difficulty communicating or integrating into the lifestyle here” – Hao said.

When asked about how to quickly adapt to life in a country on the other side of the world, Canh Hao said the most important thing is to be optimistic and find joy in yourself. Make lots of friends, talk a lot and don't be afraid to seek support and help from those around you, don't withdraw into yourself but be confident in creating relationships. And never be afraid to try new things, only then will you find joy for yourself.

Currently, although he has become an international student in the US, Hao still has a passion and enthusiasm for dancing. He confided: “I am most passionate about dancing, but boys’ schools do not care much about art, they focus more on sports, so the school does not have a dance club yet. I plan to establish a dance club in the near future.”
It is known that Hao is currently participating in organizations and extracurricular activities such as Circle K (community activities), ISA (International Student Association), VSA (Vietnam Student Association), Glee Club (School Acapella Club), Badminton Club (Badminton Club) and The Complimentary (School Newspaper). In addition, this dynamic young man is also working part-time at the International Center (building for international students) and holds the position of consultant in the Admission Office (school admissions office).

“Although it is quite busy, I think it will help me develop my inherent abilities and stay away from negative activities.” – Hao shared.
Study abroad with the mindset of returning to contribute
When asked about his future plans to stay in the US or return to Vietnam, Hao firmly answered that he would return to work and contribute to the country. “After graduating, I plan to return to Vietnam to find a job and then consider studying for an MBA (Master of Business Administration). I studied psychology to return and contribute, not with the intention of settling down like most students here. I am a family person, so I cannot live too far away from my parents, I would not feel secure. Moreover, although I have adapted well, I do not really like life here, I prefer living in Vietnam, it is more comfortable and the food is much better” – Hao confided.

During the conversation, he also shared some tips for those who are planning to hunt for scholarships to study abroad. “Clearly identify your own and your family’s needs to research and make a list of suitable schools. It doesn’t have to be a top school, a mediocre school is fine as long as it is suitable for you and your family. There will be opportunities everywhere, the important thing is how you take advantage of them.”
Hao also said that making a list of schools is an extremely important step, you should ask and seek information and advice from experienced people. Once you have identified the school, go to the school's homepage to read and learn carefully about the conditions and policies, especially about financial support. If necessary, email the school directly to ask for information (remember to write carefully because they will save it). And the last step, believe in your own abilities and polish your profile, don't be afraid to seek help from family and friends.
