The source said toRIA Novostithat: "Russian Ambassador to the United States (Sergey Kislyak) will represent Russia at the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump, following the tradition of many years."

The statement was made amid speculation that Russian President Vladimir Putin will attend Trump's inauguration on January 20, as well as amid US intelligence agencies accusing Russia of being behind cyber attacks aimed at influencing the US election.

Mr Trump’s inauguration is expected to draw a large number of celebrities, including politicians. Former President Bill Clinton and former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton are also expected to attend the event.

In another related development, the committee in charge of organizing Mr. Trump's inauguration said yesterday that they had raised more than $90 million for the event, a number that is expected to continue to increase.
