After the match at Pakansari Stadium, Coach Riedl entered the press conference room later than expected. The organizing committee even had to send someone to find and urge the Austrian coach.
"The match was exciting and fast-paced. Both teams played well. In the second half, Vietnam played strongly and created many opportunities. However, my players stood firm. I am proud to have defeated a strong opponent like Vietnam," the Indonesian coach said.
As is tradition, the confrontations between Vietnam and Indonesia are always dramatic. In the 7th minute, Yama Pranata opened the scoring for the home team, with a header after a corner kick from his teammate. About 10 minutes later, Vietnam was awarded a penalty after Cong Vinh was fouled by Wahyudi in the penalty area. From the 11-meter mark, Van Quyet scored the equalizer. At the beginning of the second half, it was Indonesia's turn to be awarded a penalty, after Ngoc Hai fouled Lilipaly. Salossa took responsibility and succeeded, sealing the victory for the home team.
When asked about the referee's penalty situations in this match, coach Riedl refused to answer. "I don't want to talk about the referee. I didn't see clearly the situation that led to the first penalty for Vietnam. I need to review the video to know whether the referee handled the situation properly or not."
Winning this match, Indonesia still has a lot of work to do. Because in four days they will play at My Dinh Stadium in the second leg. In that match, Vietnam only needs to win 1-0 to advance, according to the home-away goal rule. "Indonesia lost a goal at home, that is not good. We will analyze this situation again to avoid making the same mistake in the next match. Indonesia also has to score away goals. Vietnam is strong, they cannot be subjective, they still have a chance," said coach Riedl.
