Warm program 'Cactus Still Blooms' honors women with disabilities

Quynh Luu currently has more than 2,000 women with disabilities, of which about 1,000 women are members of the organization. At the Congress of the Women's Union of Quynh Luu district for the 2021-2026 term, delegates agreed to set a target of having 80% of women with disabilities receive assistance.

To achieve that target, in recent times, the District Women's Union has directed all levels of the local Women's Union to organize and implement many activities to help women rise up and affirm their abilities. At the same time, coordinate with departments and branches, especially the District Association for the Protection of Children's Rights and the Support of People with Disabilities to organize activities such as: visiting, giving gifts, giving livelihood models; organizing communication and community education to eliminate discrimination against women with disabilities.

From 2016 to present, the Women's Union, the Association for Protection of Children's Rights and Support of the Disabled in Quynh Luu district and the grassroots associations have connected and mobilized to donate 101 wheelchairs, 37 livelihood models, supported funding to build 29 new shelters, and presented 3,500 gifts with a total amount of nearly 2.5 billion VND. In particular, many units have performed well, typically: Quynh Bang, Quynh Hau, Quynh Thach, Quynh Dien, Ngoc Son, Quynh Ba...

At the program, delegates and members had the opportunity to meet and listen to disabled women who overcame difficulties and told stories about their circumstances and journeys to overcome themselves, promoting the spirit of “disabled but not useless”. Each woman is a typical example of determination and desire to live, inspiring other disabled women and those in difficult circumstances.

On this occasion, the Women's Union, the Association for Protection of Children's Rights and Support of the Disabled in Quynh Luu district and benefactors presented 33 gifts to 33 disabled women in the district; each gift worth from 500,000 to 700,000 VND. The Association for Protection of Children's Rights and Support of the Disabled in the province also presented 33 gifts, each worth 300,000 VND.
