Murder just because woman was slapped at dog meat restaurant
(Baonghean.vn) - After being slapped in the face by a man at a dog meat restaurant, Khanh told her brother and cousin about the incident. Late at night, the whole group went to meet the person who slapped Khanh, then took his life.
On November 14, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a trial for defendants Lo Thanh Hai (born 1994), residing in Kim Son town, Que Phong district and Pham Tung Khanh (born 1990), residing in Tan Lac town, Quy Chau district, both on charges of "Killing".
Defendant Pham Thuc Khanh (born 1993), residing in Tan Lac town, Quy Chau district, was prosecuted for the crime of "Disturbing public order"; Defendant Ho Viet Quyen (born 1996), residing in Long Son ward, Thai Hoa town, was tried for the crime of "Concealing criminals".
The indictment stated that on the evening of July 25, 2019, at a dog meat restaurant in Kim Son town, Que Phong district, a conflict occurred between Pham Thuc Khanh and Lo Minh H. (born in 1989, residing in Tien Phong commune). H. grabbed Khanh's hair and slapped her in the face, but was stopped by everyone. Afterwards, Khanh and a group of friends went to sing karaoke.
A while later, when meeting his nephew Lo Thanh Hai and his brother Pham Tung Khanh, Khanh told them about being beaten by Mr. H. at the dog meat restaurant. Hearing that, Hai and Khanh immediately went to find Mr. H., arranged to meet and talk. Before leaving, Hai took a sickle knife, a sword, and a knife.
At around 10:30 p.m. the same day, at the meeting point at Phu Huong intersection (in Tien Phong commune, Que Phong district), Mr. H. arrived alone on a motorbike, holding a knife in his hand. At this time, Hai took a sickle knife and slashed Mr. H's hand once.
Pham Thuc Khanh saw Mr. H. running towards her with a knife, so she picked up a brick and threw it at her opponent, but missed. At that moment, Pham Tung Khanh ran towards Mr. H. with a sword, but he avoided it. At the same time, Hai rushed towards him and slashed him many times.
The victim ran about 30 meters and collapsed in an empty lot. Seeing Mr. H. bleeding profusely, Hai told Khanh: "Auntie, take the car and take him to the hospital", then told Khanh: "You and I will run away".
On the run, Hai and Khanh threw the weapons into the bushes along the road. After nearly 4 years on the run, on June 6, 2023, Pham Tung Khanh and Lo Thanh Hai were arrested by the police following a wanted notice.
At the trial, the defendants admitted their crimes and expressed remorse. Defendant Hai said that he had heard that his aunt had been beaten, so he sought out Mr. H. to confront him. After committing the murder, he fled in fear.
The panel of judges determined that in this case, defendant Hai was the leader, initiator, and direct perpetrator of the crime. Defendant Hai's criminal behavior was hooligan and reckless. Therefore, the court sentenced Lo Thanh Hai to life in prison; defendant Pham Tung Khanh to 20 years in prison for murder; defendant Pham Thuc Khanh to 2 years in prison; and Ho Viet Quyen to 18 months in prison with a suspended sentence.
Regarding the civil part, the court ordered defendant Hai to compensate the victim's family 270 million VND (deducted from the amount already compensated).
