This is believed to be the first study in the world to find a link between wheat and the risk of colorectal cancer. The study was conducted by the World Cancer Research Fund with the support of scientists at Harvard University (USA), according to Daily Mail,
The results showed that eating 90 grams of wheat a day will reduce the risk of colorectal cancer by 17%. Harvard scientists also confirmed that people who eat more wheat have a lower risk of the disease.
At the same time, scientists also recommend that people stay away from smoked meats and processed foods. Eating a lot of these foods can neutralize the benefits of wheat.
Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer in both men and women in the United States. An average of 371 people are diagnosed with colorectal cancer every day.
The American Institute for Cancer Research estimates that 47% of colorectal cancer risks could be prevented if people made healthy lifestyle changes.
“Colorectal cancer is one of the most common cancers. However, studies show that people can take steps to reduce their risk,” said Dr. Edward Giovannucci, professor of nutrition and epidemiology at the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health.
In the study, scientists analyzed data on 29 million people from 99 different studies, including 250,000 people diagnosed with colorectal cancer. This data was collected from many places around the world. The scientists analyzed how diet, body weight, and physical activity levels affected the risk of colorectal cancer.
