Safety and efficiency must be top priorities in summer-autumn production - season 2020
(Baonghean.vn) - Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Quoc Doanh directed this at the conference to review the winter-spring crop production of 2019 - 2020; deploy the summer-autumn crop plan and orientation for the winter crop of 2020.
On May 25, in Cua Lo Town, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development coordinated with the People's Committee of Nghe An province to organize a conference to review the winter-spring crop production of 2019 - 2020 and deploy the summer-autumn crop plan, and orientation for the winter crop of 2020.
Attending the conference were comrades: Le Quoc Doanh - Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development; Hoang Nghia Hieu - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and representatives of leaders of Central ministries, branches and northern provinces and cities.

Winter-spring crop 2019 - 2020 achieved productivity and value
The 2019-2020 winter-spring crop took place in unusual weather conditions: the stage of rice differentiation and flowering in the provinces of the Red River Delta and the Northern midlands and mountains encountered low temperatures; in some provinces of the North Central Coast, when the rice was ready to harvest, the cold air intensified, causing many areas to fall and fall. However, up to now, it can be assessed that the 2019-2020 winter-spring crop was a productive and valuable crop.

The cultivated rice area reached 1,110,000 hectares, with a yield of 63.2 quintals/hectare and an estimated total rice output of 6,958,000 tons. The area of high-quality rice reached 500,000 hectares, an increase of 22,000 hectares compared to the previous winter-spring crop; Nearly 12,000 hectares of ineffective rice land were converted to other crops with higher economic efficiency. To date, the whole region has planted over 595,000 hectares of corn, peanuts and various vegetables in the 2020 spring crop.
Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nghia Hieu stated: Since the beginning of 2020, Nghe An agricultural production has been taking place in difficult conditions; affected by 18 cold air waves, 8 storms, tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind, causing great impacts on agricultural production.However, the whole province has planted 92,252 hectares of spring rice/plan 90,000 hectares, the expected yield is 67.03 quintals/ha, an increase of 0.86 quintals compared to the 2019 spring crop. Other crops such as corn, peanuts, and vegetables of all kinds have achieved positive results.

In particular, in the 2020 spring crop, Nghe An had nearly 50 hectares of ineffective rice land permanently converted to other crops and the greenhouse model brought much higher economic efficiency. It is expected that in the 2020 summer-autumn crop, the whole province will permanently convert 785.35 hectares.
In the summer-autumn crop of 2020, Nghe An strives to achieve 428,800 tons of food, with drastic solutions from the beginning of the crop. Production must always be proactive, and planting must ensure safety based on clearly identifying risks of drought, natural disasters and epidemics.

Summer-autumn production - safe and effective season
After listening to reports on water resources, hydrology, weather and proposals from the provinces, concluding the conference, Deputy Minister Le Quoc Doanh requested: From now until the end of the spring crop, localities need to focus on doing a good job of plant protection, irrigation and mobilizing maximum resources to quickly harvest the ripe spring rice area with the motto "green house is better than ripe field".
Develop early plans for the 2020 summer-autumn and winter crops, prepare the land and start production as soon as harvest is complete. With an expected planting area of 1,228 hectares, summer-autumn and winter production needs to prioritize safe and effective production.

Localities must develop specific production plans that are suitable to the specific situation of the locality. Focus on using short-term, temperate rice varieties, expanding the proportion of very early and early-season rice to create land for developing high-value, warm-season winter crops; proactively review areas at risk of water shortage to change crops and seasons. In particular, proactively develop plans to prevent and combat natural disasters and epidemics right from the beginning of the season to minimize damage to production.

At the same time, prepare early the conditions for the 2020 winter crop production towards increasing value and sustainability, developing the winter crop as a main crop; expand the production area to compensate for the impact on the industry's growth due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the damage caused by natural disasters and epidemics. It is expected that the entire production area will be about 420,000 hectares, with a total output of over 4,939,000 tons.
At the conference, 6 groups and 7 individuals received Certificates of Merit from the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development for their outstanding achievements in directing the production of the 2019-2020 winter-spring crop. Nghe An Department of Agriculture and Rural Development received a Certificate of Merit for the group and Mr. Nguyen Van Lap - Deputy Director of the Department received a Certificate of Merit for the individual./.
