(Baonghean.vn) - The British Home Office said on October 8 that after Brexit, all 3.6 million EU citizens living in the UK will be able to continue living in the foggy island nation after an amnesty for those who have not yet received permanent residency rights was issued.

According to the Telegraph magazine, the British Home Office believes that about 5/6 of European immigrants will not be legally deported and the rest will receive amnesty to have the opportunity to settle in this country.

Under current UK rules, permanent residency is only granted to residents once they have lived in the UK for more than five years, and only around 2.9 million people will be able to meet this requirement in 2019 - the year the UK officially leaves the EU.

The Telegraph also said that the proposal for this special amnesty has not yet been confirmed, but a number of ministers in the British government's Cabinet have taken measures to ensure that the plan is implemented.

Previously, Liam Fox, the UK's Secretary of State for International Trade, announced that he would not guarantee that EU citizens could stay in the UK, and used this as "one of the four main cards" in negotiations with the remaining countries in the EU.

The British government is under attack after refusing to guarantee European migrants the right to stay in the country.

Prime Minister Theresa May has been accused by some of treating them as “bargaining chips” in Brexit negotiations with Europe.
