Husband slashed sister-in-law for serving dinner
(Baonghean.vn) - Just because his sister-in-law was busy taking care of her grandchild and didn't have time to prepare dinner, Tinh used a knife to repeatedly slash his sister-in-law.
On June 16, at the People's Court of Nghe An province, the Hanoi High People's Court opened an appeal trial of defendant Dinh Huu Tinh (born 1989), residing in Dai Dong commune, Thanh Chuong district, for the crime of "Murder". The victim in the case was the defendant's sister-in-law - Ms. Le Thi Thanh Ng.
According to the case file, at noon on June 21, 2022, when Ms. Ng. finished cooking and was holding her baby, Tinh said, "Serve me some food." Because the baby was crying, Ms. Ng. told Tinh to scoop and eat herself.

Tinh continued to ask his sister-in-law to prepare dinner for him, but because the child would not stop crying, Ms. Ng angrily said, "If you want to eat, get married and I will prepare dinner for you." Hearing this, Tinh continued to scold his sister-in-law and threatened to beat her.
Because the child was crying, Ms. Ng. carried the child out into the yard, but Tinh immediately took a knife and slashed his sister-in-law's head and arms repeatedly. Afraid that Tinh would slash her child, Ms. Ng. carried the child to the neighbor's house to call for help.
At this time, Tinh continued to chase Ms. Ng. and slashed her sister-in-law three more times in the head. Only when neighbors intervened did Tinh stop. Authorities determined the victim's injury level to be 26%.
At the first instance court, because it was determined that the defendant had epilepsy, which limited his ability to perceive and control his behavior, the court sentenced Dinh Huu Tinh to 8 years in prison for the crime of "Murder".
Afterwards, the defendant's guardian filed an appeal requesting consideration for Tinh to receive medical treatment or to have his sentence reduced.
At the appeal court, the victim asked for a lighter sentence for the defendant. At the same time, she stated that although she did not request civil compensation at the first instance court, after the court announced the verdict, the defendant had influenced her family to compensate her for medical expenses and hospital fees. This is a new detail in the case.
The appellate court determined that because the defendant had some new mitigating circumstances at this trial, it accepted the appeal of the defendant's guardian and reduced the sentence from 8 years to 7 years in prison for Dinh Huu Tinh.
