Many social media users also posted similar photos. Specifically, Sergei Grishin, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of RBC-Ukraine, published photos showing Putin's photo on the billboard covered with the words "April 21 - Decisive Choice".
“I read five posts yesterday about how it was right and important to remove the image from the board. And now they’re putting it back up. Something’s not right here,” one journalist wrote on Facebook.
Earlier in Ukraine, billboards with pictures of the Russian and Ukrainian presidents appeared, on which Mr. Poroshenko opposed himself to Mr. Putin in the second round of elections. Mr. Poroshenko's campaign tents also distributed newspapers with similar pictures, a total of 4 million such prints were circulated.
The former Ukrainian Justice Minister then asked whether Poroshenko had asked Putin for permission to use the Russian leader's photo. The Ukrainian presidential election headquarters said no. Poroshenko's ad sparked outrage online.
