Britain cannot prove Skripal poisoning linked to Russia

Despite the lack of clear evidence, Britain accused Russia of being behind the poisoning.

Skynews news agency quoted Gary Aikenhead, CEO of the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL) at Porton Down base, UK, as saying yesterday that the agency has so far been unable to determine the origin of the Novichok nerve agent in the poisoning of former Russian spy Skripal.

After four weeks of research, Mr. Gary Aikenhead said that the laboratory could only identify the type of poison used to poison former spy Skripal as Novichok, used in the military, but could not confirm that it was produced in Russia as previously alleged by the British government.

According to Mr. Gary Aikenhead, all that British chemical experts can do is provide the British Government with “some scientific evidence”, which they “combine with some other pieces of information” to make the final accusation to the public.

The poisoning of former Russian spy Skripal and his daughter in the UK has pushed Russia-West relations to a new level of tension. Despite no clear evidence, the UK accused Russia of being behind the poisoning and, along with dozens of Western countries, expelled 150 Russian diplomats.

Russia has denied all Western accusations against the country and asked the UK to provide evidence. Russia has requested an emergency meeting of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons today (April 4) to investigate the incident./.
