Before the conference began, delegates visited the Tuong Son field, where 100 hectares of BO6 corn were planted, to inspect the actual yield of the corn variety.
In the 2014 summer-autumn crop season, Bioseed Vietnam Co., Ltd. contracted with local households to plant 8 tons of BO6 hybrid corn seeds on an area of 400 hectares in Tuong Son, Tam Son, and Duc Son communes, Lang Son province. Bioseed Vietnam provided detailed guidance on planting and cultivation techniques.
Initial results obtained from the BO6 corn variety in communes across Anh Son district show that the BO6 hybrid corn variety has good growth and development potential, with strong, deep-penetrating roots that resist lodging and are drought-tolerant. The corn plants are compact, with upright leaves, and the ears do not rot. They are suitable for dense planting techniques, yielding high productivity, and are less susceptible to pests and diseases, fitting the local ecological conditions. The average growing period is approximately 90 days, with yields exceeding 60 quintals/hectare, resulting in a total planting yield of 2,400 tons across all communes.
In the 2014 summer-autumn crop season, Anh Son district planted 1,200 hectares of corn, with an expected yield of 7,200 tons. Practical experience with the BO6 corn variety has shown it to be effective and suitable for the weather and soil conditions in the district. Speaking at the conference, Mr. Nguyen Huu Sang, Vice Chairman of the District People's Committee, acknowledged the initial results achieved from planting the BO6 corn variety and urged farmers to continue planting it in the fields during the upcoming winter season, based on the actual conditions of the planting area.
