Mr. Son: Raising fish in cages earns 15 million VND/month

(Baonghean.vn) - Taking advantage of the water surface on rivers, lakes and dams to develop cage fish farming is a direction being applied by many households in the mountainous district of Anh Son.

Visiting the fish cage farming model of Mr. Nguyen Van Ngoc in village 2, Duc Son commune, the first impression is the large-scale investment in the cage farming system.

Mr. Ngoc shared: After surveying, he realized that Khe Nay dam area in Duc Son commune has good conditions, abundant water all year round, he decided to rent the whole area to raise fish. Accordingly, he invested 200 million VND to build 10 fish cages with a volume of 750m3, along with investing more than 100 million VND to buy fish varieties such as black carp, climbing perch, catfish, snakehead fish...

To close the farming process, Mr. Ngoc also raises pigs and chickens to have a source of waste to feed the fish.

After nearly a year of raising fish, the fish cages have begun to yield harvests. Particularly for fish with high economic value such as climbing fish and catfish, Mr. Ngoc earns from 10-15 million VND per month.

Taking advantage of the Lam River's water surface, Mr. Tran Van Duong's family in village 3, Thach Son commune, built fish cages right on the river. Mr. Duong said: At first, his family made wooden cages, then with the support of the agricultural sector in terms of capital, he made iron cages to ensure sustainable fish farming. Currently, Mr. Duong mainly raises grass carp, when the fish reach a weight of 3-5 kg, he starts selling them. The cage fish farming model not only helps his family escape poverty but also brings in a good income.

It is known that, in addition to the efforts of the people, Anh Son district has promoted propaganda and encouragement, along with supporting people with funding for building cages according to the zoning mechanism. Accordingly, zone 1 will be supported with 2 million VND, zone 2 with 4 million VND, zone 3 with 6 million VND per cage. In the past 5 years, people have been supported with over 100 million VND. In addition, to proactively provide fish fry for people, the locality has also promoted fish hatching with an area of ​​30 hectares, with an output of 50 tons per year.

Up to now, Anh Son district has dozens of households raising fish in cages on rivers and dams in Duc Son, Thach Son, Tao Son, Tam Son communes, contributing to increasing fish output in the area in the first quarter of 2017 to 320 tons, reaching 20.3% of the plan, up 11% over the same period.
