(Baonghean.vn) - In order to capitalize on the advantage of over 1,000 hectares of ponds and lakes, Anh Son district has implemented a policy to support two households with ducklings and feed to develop a wild duck farming model.

With the desire to introduce wild duck farming in the area and help farmers increase their income, in 2016 Anh Son district, in coordination with the Department of Science and Technology, selected two households for trial farming: Mr. Nguyen Huu Tuyen and Mr. Nguyen Huu Hung in Hamlet 2, Long Son commune. Accordingly, the households will receive support covering 50% of the ducklings and 30% of the feed. The total investment was nearly 40 million VND, and after more than 3 months of implementation, the wild duck flock is developing well.

Anh Son district currently has over 1,000 hectares of pond and lake surface area, therefore the district is implementing policies to support the development of wild duck farming to exploit the potential in the area and help people develop their economy.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Tuyen's family in Bai Da, Phuc Son commune, is one of the households selected to build the model. In early March this year, with a 15 million VND grant from the district, Mr. Tuyen invested over 30 million VND to buy wild ducks and raise them on 2 hectares of water surface. As someone with many years of experience in duck farming, he carefully cared for his flock, and they thrived.

Mr. Tuyen said: "With the desire to replicate this model, and with the support of the district, I bought 400 wild ducks. During the rearing process, I always focused on disease prevention, so after more than 3 months, the flock of ducks is developing well, each weighing nearly 1kg. In about another month, I will sell the ducklings and meat ducks, promising a high income."

After nearly three months of raising them, Mr. Tuyen's flock of wild ducks is thriving, providing a source of breeding stock in the district.

Wild ducks are well-suited to the climate in Nghe An province and are easy to raise. When the ducklings are young, they should be fed supplemental egg feed and given all necessary vaccinations. The enclosures must be near water, well-ventilated, and kept clean to prevent disease outbreaks. Wild ducks are adept at foraging in streams and rice fields. Their meat is very flavorful, tender, and firm due to being raised free-range. Calculations show that raising wild ducks yields higher income than raising domestic ducks, with each kilogram selling for 120,000 to 150,000 VND, while domestic ducks only sell for 50,000 to 70,000 VND per kilogram, with similar investment costs.
