Iranian President's brother arrested for financial fraud

Iranian police have arrested Hussein Ferejdun, the brother of President Hassan Rouhani, who is accused of financial crimes, according to a report by AFP citing court representatives.

"Yesterday Mr. Ferejdun was released on bail, but because he did not fulfill the court's conditions, he was arrested again by the police," — the news agency's own source said.

An investigation is underway against Mr. Ferejdun and several other officials. Several of them are in custody.

According to the BBC, Mr Ferejdun was involved in a scandal related to increasing the salaries of managers of the state insurance company. However, he denied the charges.

Hussein Ferejdun in 2015 was a special envoy of the Islamic Republic in negotiations on Iran's nuclear program.
