The 24th annual photo contest organized by the magazine.National Geographic TravelerThis year's competition attracted over 12,000 entries from 6,615 talented photographers from 152 countries around the world. The 11 winning photos are the most beautiful images, taken in various locations from Afghanistan to Vietnam, capturing everything from peaceful natural landscapes to unexpected human moments.
The works were judged based on creativity and image quality by a panel of world-renowned photography experts.
The photograph titled "My Balloon" by Vietnamese photographer Vo Anh Kiet was honored with second place in the competition. The photo depicts three H'mong children on a foggy day in early 2012 in Moc Chau.
Alexandra Avakian, photographer ofNational Geographic, also one of the judges of the competition, commented that this photograph resembles an endless dream not only because of its black and white color scheme and pristine landscape, but also because it reflects a favorite children's game across the planet: balloons. The hazy mist makes the image even more nostalgic.
