Suddenly suffering from a cold and viral fever, Anh Vien was unable to complete her best performance in the competition, and even had to give up some events at the Grand Prix swimming tournament taking place in Indianapolis (USA).

Anh Vien is being examined by a doctor in the US right at the Grand Prix BTC GRAND PRIX INDIANAPOLIS.

At this tournament, Vien competed in the first two events and achieved much better results than in the same training period of previous years. In the 200m breaststroke, Vien achieved a time of 2 minutes 34 seconds 40; in the 400m freestyle, he achieved a time of 4 minutes 13 seconds 40.

With these achievements, Vien made it to the finals. But after lunch and when he started to relax, Vien had a sore throat, runny nose, cough and then a cold. Vien still tried to compete in the finals in the afternoon but due to poor health, he did not meet the requirements.

On the morning of March 3, Vien coughed more but still tried to compete in the 200m freestyle and 400m medley. However, by the finals, Vien's cough became worse and she started to have a high fever. Because her health did not allow it, coach Dang Anh Tuan withdrew her name from the finals.

The tournament's organizing committee doctor examined Vien and concluded that she was infected because the tournament's swimming pool was too crowded, causing water quality problems and unsanitary conditions. Vien took antibiotics and medicine to treat fever and flu. This was a mild illness, not dangerous, but for a top athlete like Vien, it affected her training process.

Currently, due to taking high doses of antibiotics, Vien is tired, her physical strength is only 80% of her normal healthy state (Vien weighs 63 kg, heavier than last year). Her diet must also be adjusted to help Vien quickly regain her resistance. She will have to participate in many other training tournaments in the next 4 months, specifically another Grand Prix at the end of March, the Mesa tournament in April, the Atlanta tournament in May, the California tournament in June...

The important goal that the General Department of Sports and Physical Training set for Anh Vien and her team is to win more than 8 gold medals at the 29th SEA Games (at the 28th SEA Games, Vien became the best foreign athlete of the tournament with 8 gold medals), and strive to win an ASIAD medal.
