Ánh Viên was the most outstanding athlete of 2014.

According to the recently announced vote count, swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien is leading the poll for outstanding athletes and coaches with disabilities nationwide in 2014 with 1077 points.

Second on this list is shooter Hoang Xuan Vinh (975 points), while weightlifter Thach Kim Tuan finished third with 944 points.

The following positions were taken by Duong Thuy Vi (wushu, 678 points), Phan Thi Ha Thanh (gymnastics, 677 points), Quach Thi Lan (athletics, 381 points), Nguyen Hoang Ngan (karatedo, 228 points), Nguyen Thi That (cycling, 223 points), Nguyen Tien Minh (badminton, 194 points), and Bui Thi Thu Thao (athletics, 150 points).

In the Coach of the Year poll, Coach Huynh Huu Chi (Ho Chi Minh City), the mentor of weightlifter Thach Kim Tuan, was voted the best coach with 439 points, surpassing Coach Dang Anh Tuan of swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien.

In the poll for the most outstanding disabled athlete, swimmer Vo Thanh Tung, who won 5 Para Games gold medals, was voted the best athlete. Coach Dong Quoc Cuong, Thanh Tung's mentor, also came first in the poll for the most outstanding disabled coach.

Notably, all five football representatives nominated by the VFF for the voting list failed to make it into the top 10, including the talented U19 player Nguyen Cong Phuong.

Immediately after being informed by the Sports & Culture newspaper, Coach Huynh Huu Chi stated that the title of Outstanding Coach was not that important to him; what mattered most were the successes achieved by weightlifter Thach Kim Tuan.

Mr. Chi also felt sorry for his student who only ranked 3rd in the list of 10 outstanding athletes nationwide in 2014. With 2 silver medals at the 17th Asian Games in the 56kg category; breaking 2 Asian records (snatch 136kg and total lift 294kg); 1 gold and 2 silver medals in the 56kg category at the World Championships; 3 gold medals and breaking 3 world youth records in the 56kg category at the World Youth Championships; 3 gold medals and breaking 3 records at the 7th National Sports Congress, weightlifter Thach Kim Tuan deserved to be selected in a higher position.

Reportedly, this morning, December 31st, the prize money for the ASIAD achievements was also transferred to the athletes, including weightlifter Thach Kim Tuan.
