Vietnamese Ao Dai with 468 embossed ancient motifs receives Guinness record

The "Mark of Time" ao dai by designer Hoang Ly has just been certified by the Vietnam Guinness Book of Records.

The "Time Mark" ao dai by designer Hoang Ly is 189m long, studded with stones and embossed with 468 ancient Vietnamese patterns from the 17th century combined with mother-of-pearl inlay on a silk background.

15 designers and artisans from the embroidery village of Thuong Tin district (Hanoi) completed the project in 5 months. After designing and shaping the shirt, the artists drew ancient Vietnamese patterns and motifs to emboss.

The embroidery and stonework on the patterned background to create the uniqueness of the ao dai takes a lot of time because it requires meticulousness and ingenuity down to the smallest detail. The finished work weighs up to 200kg.

Designer Hoang Ly shared that this is "the biggest challenge ever to honor the traditional cultural identity of Vietnam".
