Austria: There is no substitute for Nord Stream 2 for Europe
Austria supports the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. The country's Minister of Economy said in an interview with the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
"We support this project to ensure long-term energy supplies for Europe," said Austrian Economy Minister Shrambok.
Austria also supports other "green fuel" transportation channels, including the supply of liquefied natural gas from the United States, she said.
“But not as a replacement for Nord Stream 2, just other projects in addition to this one,” the minister said.
Nord Stream is a projectpipelineOffshore natural gas from Vyborg, Russia to Greifswald, Germanyby the company. The name also has a broader meaning, including overland gas pipelines in Russia and further connecting the system to Western Europe.
This Russian-German project has met with opposition from some countries through which the pipeline will pass and from the West, especially the United States.
