APEC 2017: Increasing disaster resilience through infrastructure investment

(Baonghean.vn) - Within the framework of the Workshop "Enhancing disaster resilience through rural infrastructure investment", there were two main contents discussed, including: infrastructure restoration and challenges of countries.

On the morning of September 20, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development coordinated with relevant groups to organize a technical workshop on the sidelines of the APEC conference "Enhancing disaster resilience through rural infrastructure investment".

The meeting was attended by representatives from APEC economies and relevant international organizations.

The workshop was co-chaired by Ms. Kyoko Kondo - Asian Disaster Preparedness Center and Dr. Le Quang Tuan - EPWG (Vietnam Emergency Preparedness Working Group).

The main content of the workshop focused on discussing effective infrastructure investment to enhance disaster resilience and adaptability in rural areas for APEC economies.

Within the framework of the Workshop, there were two main parts discussed including: infrastructure restoration and challenges of countries.

In part 1, delegates heard the experiences of experts from Taiwan, Japan, the Philippines and Vietnam.

Part 2 discusses factors related to effective infrastructure recovery after natural disasters, presented by experts from Mexico, JICA - Japan, Indonesia and Vietnam.

In addition to the main contents on enhancing disaster resilience through rural infrastructure investment, delegates also shared information on natural disasters in the region; recommendations on enhancing food security and sustainable agricultural development in response to climate change, joint initiatives on "Enhancing disaster resilience in the "New Normal" through infrastructure restoration and solutions from relevant parties.

The 11th Senior Disaster Management Officials Meeting on “Enhancing Cooperation and Innovation in Advanced Technology to Support the Consequences of Inter-Regional Emergency Response to New Disaster Phenomena” in APEC economies will officially take place in the next 2 days (September 21 and 22, 2017).
