In a press release issued the same day, it stated: "In accordance with Article 149 of the Armenian Constitution, President Sarkisyan signed a decree dissolving the Parliament and setting early elections for December 9. The decree comes into force from the moment of its publication."
On the same day, the Armenian Parliament, in its second vote, failed to elect the sole candidate Nikol Parshynian to the post of Prime Minister. Immediately afterwards, a decree dissolving the Parliament was announced.
Armenia fell into a serious political crisis after the Armenian Parliament elected former President Serzh Sargsyan as Prime Minister on April 17. However, Mr. Sargsyan had to resign under pressure from protests by the opposition. Later, the opposition leader, Mr. Parshynian, was elected as the new Prime Minister. However, Prime Minister Pashinyan has had many difficulties in governing the country because lawmakers who are allies of former President Sargsyan hold the majority in the Parliament.
Therefore, on October 16, Prime Minister Parshynian announced his resignation, a move that paved the way for the dissolution of Parliament and early elections./.
