On July 27, the Armenian police press service reported that a shootout broke out in the premises of the police headquarters, injuring three people, including a police officer and two members of the rioting group.
All the injured were taken to hospital for emergency treatment. The gunfight has now ended and authorities are trying to negotiate with the remaining members of the armed group to surrender.
On July 17, an armed group attacked a police regiment of the Armenian Guard and Patrol Police Department and took several hostages in an attempt to pressure President Serzh Sarkisian to resign and demand the release of opposition leader Zhirair Sefilyan.

During the occupation, several gunfights occurred, leaving one police officer dead and six others injured. After negotiations with the government on July 23, the rioters released all hostages.
However, while the police surrounded the building, a protest took place in the capital Yerevan with the participation of thousands of opposition people aiming to obstruct the police operation. Clashes broke out again, injuring 51 people, including 29 police officers./.
