Arsenal postpones contract negotiations with Ozil, Sanchez

The Arsenal star duo's contracts will expire in the summer of 2018, with the parties yet to agree on a future commitment.

Normally, clubs will renew contracts with stars one to two years before the expiry date to avoid losing players for free. That is the reason why Arsenal sat down to negotiate with Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil last winter, because both contracts will expire in June 2018.

But disagreements over wages and Arsenal's ambitions have left Ozil and Sanchez hesitant to sign new contracts. Unable to agree on terms, Arsenal have postponed negotiations until next summer.

"At the moment we still don't have a consensus. So we decided to focus on competing in the fierce period and will discuss the contract issue again in the summer," coach Arsene Wenger told beIN Sport.

Arsenal offered Ozil a new contract worth $350,000 a week but the German midfielder refused. Sanchez has become increasingly frustrated with the Emirates team due to recent poor results. The Chilean striker is likely to find a new destination to compete for titles.

Sanchez suffered a minor injury in the Premier League match against West Brom, but returned to the national team. The French coach was concerned that his player could get injured playing for Chile, but he sympathized with the team's difficulties in the World Cup qualifying campaign.
