Specifically, the French strategist has included four forwards – Jackson Martinez, Edin Dzeko, Mario Mandzukic, and Diego Costa – on his shopping list. Of these, Martinez, Mandzukic, and Costa are considered among the world's top strikers today.
In defense, Arsenal want to strengthen their right flank with Dortmund defender Lukasz Piszczek. The final target in Arsenal's summer transfer plan is Schalke attacking midfielder Julian Draxler.
But in the end, Arsenal only managed to secure the signature of injured player Kim Kallstrom on loan from Spartak Moscow.
Juan Mata has just disappointed Manchester United fans by admitting that the team no longer has a chance of winning the Premier League title this season.
"We've fallen too far behind in the standings. That's a real setback because we didn't play well in the first half of the season. Maybe next season Man Utd will fight for the title, but this year, we're only thinking about a Champions League spot," Mata shared.
"The task of finishing in the top four is no easy one, and the whole team needs to play with the highest level of determination in all the upcoming matches."
Manchester United currently sit seventh in the table, but are still seven points behind fourth-placed Liverpool.
* By keeping a clean sheet against Atletico Madrid, goalkeeper Iker Casillas set a new clean sheet record. According to statistics, this was Casillas' eighth consecutive match playing in an unbeaten run for Real Madrid, bringing his total number of clean sheets to 772.
This achievement surpassed the previous record set by legendary Paco Buyo in 1995, which saw him go 7 consecutive matches unbeaten and keep a clean sheet for 658 minutes.
Not Manchester United or Man City, but Valencia has completed the signing of Porto defender Nicolas Otamendi on a five-year contract for a transfer fee of 12 million euros.
The 25-year-old player was contacted by Manchester United, Manchester City, and Monaco last January. The Citizens sent scouts to Portugal to monitor him. Meanwhile, the Red Devils even submitted an offer to Porto at the end of the transfer window.
"After playing for a big club like Porto, I am honored to join Valencia," Otamendi said on the club's official website. "Valencia is one of the most notable teams in Spain and Europe. I am very happy with this next stage of my career."
* Argentinian midfielder Angel Di Maria has once again affirmed his commitment to Real Madrid, despite recent speculation about his future.
"I am very pleased with the welcome from the fans," Di Maria shared. "I have proven that I will give my all for the club and will do so forever."
In the match on the morning of February 6th, Di Maria delivered an impressive performance and became the hero for Real Madrid, scoring one goal and providing one assist in their 3-0 victory over Atletico in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final.
* Young talent Adnan Januzaj has been voted Manchester United's Player of the Month for January 2014 by fans. Januzaj received 75% of the votes, beating Danny Welbeck and Chris Smalling.
The Player of the Month award is a regular award voted on by Manchester United fans through the club's official website, manutd.com.
"I would like to thank all the fans, my teammates and the coaching staff of MU. I feel extremely happy with this award and hope I will have the opportunity to receive this honor many more times in the future," Januzaj said.
