Le Van Cong entered the competition with confidence and registered the highest weight, 178kg, in his first attempt among the five weightlifters. And in his very first attempt, Le Van Cong successfully completed his lift, coming close to winning the gold medal, as the second-place finisher, Mustafa Salman Radhi of Iraq, only managed 168kg.

In the second lift, the coaching staff decided to register a weight of 181.5kg, hoping that the 30-year-old weightlifter would surpass the world record (181kg) set by Nigerian athlete Yakubu Adesokan at the World Championships in Dubai in April.

However, in this lift, although he successfully lifted 181.5kg, the judges ruled that Cong's performance was disqualified and the result was not recognized. Despite this, with extraordinary effort, Le Van Cong brilliantly completed the event with 181.5kg in his final lift, amidst cheers and overwhelming emotion from all members of the Vietnamese Paralympic team present at the Moonlight Festival arena.

Not only did Le Van Cong win a convincing gold medal, but he also set a new world record in the men's 49kg weightlifting category for people with disabilities.

Speaking after Le Van Cong's performance, coach Nguyen Hong Phuc said that Le Van Cong had surpassed himself through extraordinary personal efforts.

For his part, Le Van Cong said that setting a world record was a long-cherished dream that had finally come true. This achievement will give him more motivation to train and compete, bringing glory to his country in the coming years.

Also on the evening of October 19th, good news kept pouring in for the Vietnamese Paralympic team.

At the Munhak Aquatic Sports Arena, at 7:14 PM (local time - 5:14 PM same day - Vietnam time), swimmer Nguyen Thanh Trung caused a major surprise by winning the gold medal in the men's 100m breaststroke, SB4 disability category.

Furthermore, his time of 1 minute 50 seconds 91 also helped Thanh Trung set a new Asian record in this event.

Additionally, in the afternoon competition, the disabled swimming team won three more silver medals thanks to Vo Thanh Tung in the men's 200m freestyle S5 disability category (time 3 minutes 2 seconds 24), Do Thanh Hai in the 100m breaststroke SB5 disability category (1 minute 43 seconds 36), Le Tien Dat in the men's 100m breaststroke SB6 disability category (1 minute 38 seconds 89), and one bronze medal by Vo Huynh Anh Khoa in the men's 50m freestyle S9 disability category (27 seconds 53).

Thus, as of 9 PM on October 19th (local time - 5 PM Vietnam time), the Vietnamese Paralympic team had won 2 gold medals, 4 silver medals, and 1 bronze medal, temporarily ranking 7th on the overall medal table and concluding a highly successful opening day at the 2nd Asian Para Games.
