Atletico Madrid uses huge salary to keep Diego Simeone

Atletico Madrid's board of directors is planning to "tie down" coach Diego Simeone with a huge salary.

Coach Diego Simeone has led Atletico since December 23, 2011, replacing his predecessor Gregorio Manzano who was fired. Diego Simeone has helped Atletico Madrid win the following championships: 1 Europa League, 1 European Super Cup, 1 Spanish Super Cup, 1 King's Cup and 1 La Liga.

Currently, coach Diego Simeone's contract is valid until June 30, 2017. The Argentine strategist is being closely pursued by big European teams such as Man City and PSG.

Therefore, Atletico Madrid's board of directors had to come up with a plan to keep this talented coach. According to Marca, Atletico wants to extend Diego Simeone's contract until 2020, along with a salary of 4.5 million pounds/season.

This salary is double what the 44-year-old coach is currently receiving, and it puts the Argentine strategist in the top of the highest-paid coaches in the world.

Currently, in the world, there are only 5 coaches who receive higher salaries than Diego Simeone: Pep Guardiola (8.8 million pounds), Jose Mourinho (7.4 million pounds), Arsene Wenger (6 million pounds), Carlo Ancelotti (5.5 million pounds) and Manuel Pellegrini (4.8 million pounds).

Although coach Diego Simeone is being pursued by many teams, the 44-year-old coach himself is very dedicated to Atletico. According to the Spanish press, the possibility of Atletico Madrid successfully "tying down" coach Diego Simeone is very high.
