Atletico and Liverpool suffer bitter exits from the Europa League.
Atletico Madrid have officially been dethroned as Europa League champions after only managing a 1-0 victory away at Rubin Kazan in the second leg (losing 1-2 on aggregate).
Meanwhile, Liverpool became the only English football representative to be eliminated in the knockout round.

Having lost 0-2 in the first leg, Diego Simeone's team played with great determination from the very first minutes of the match. However, it wasn't until the 84th minute that Radamel Falcao was able to break through the home team's defense to score for the visitors.
However, that was not enough to prevent the La Liga representatives from being eliminated from the Europa League.
"We could have turned it around if we had scored earlier. Conceding two goals in the first leg put a lot of pressure on the players," Falcao expressed his regret.
In other notable matches, Liverpool secured a 3-1 victory at home against Zenit St Petersburg thanks to a brilliant performance from striker Luis Suarez (who scored a brace). However, the English team still had to bid farewell to the Europa League due to the away goals rule.
In Lyon, Dembele's late 90th-minute goal secured a 1-1 draw for Tottenham in their away match in France. This draw allowed the Premier League side to advance to the next round, with a 3-2 aggregate victory over two legs.
In the round of 16, Tottenham will face Inter Milan. The Serie A representatives secured a convincing 5-0 victory against CFR Cluj over two legs.
Meanwhile, Shola Ameobi successfully converted a penalty in the 64th minute to give Newcastle a 1-0 victory away at Metalist Kharkiv.
At Stamford Bridge, Chelsea faced considerable difficulties against Sparta Prague, even falling behind early. Eden Hazard shone with a solo goal in the second minute of added time, securing a 1-1 draw and a place in the Round of 16 for "The Blues."
Inter Milan got off to a good start ahead of the Milan derby this weekend with a 3-0 victory away at Cluj in Romania.
