Everton faces heavy punishment for brawl with Lyon
Not only did Everton suffer an embarrassing defeat at home, they also face the risk of receiving further punishment from UEFA after a collision between players of the two teams.
Captain Ashley Williams was perhaps the focus of attention as Everton lost 1-2 at home to Lyon in the Europa League group stage. He not only scored but was also the main cause of the brawl between players from both sides.
Specifically, in the 66th minute, Williams pushed Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes unnecessarily and this image caught the referee's eye. Immediately, Lyon players ran over and demanded a settlement, Williams was not pleased and responded angrily.

According to the video, it seems that the Everton captain slapped a Lyon player in the face. An Everton fan even joined the fight from the stands behind. He tried to lean forward, pushed and then punched a white shirt.
Not only that, some Everton coaching staff members ran onto the pitch to separate the players from both teams. Although this action somewhat prevented the "kicking and punching", it was still against the rules.
Everton will likely receive a very heavy penalty from UEFA after this match.
