Australia fires 19-gun salute to welcome Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc
This morning in Canberra, Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc signed a historic document bringing the two countries' relationship to a Strategic Partnership.

The welcoming ceremony took place at the Australian Parliament House with the highest ceremony reserved for the head of government, with a 19-gun salute.

After the welcoming ceremony, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull had important talks, discussing orientations to elevate bilateral relations to new heights.

Immediately after the talks, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull witnessed the signing of important documents. Among these, the document of great significance and going down in history of the relationship between the two countries is the Joint Statement on the establishment of the Vietnam-Australia Strategic Partnership.
Vietnam and Australia established diplomatic relations in 1973 and in 2009, the two countries established a Comprehensive Partnership.
Recently, Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull attended the APEC Summit in November 2017 in Da Nang. The two countries signed the Action Plan for the period 2016-2019. Accordingly, Australia considers Vietnam a key partner in ASEAN.
