Australia is "increasingly certain" the plane debris is from MH370.

On July 31, Australian authorities said they were "increasingly certain" that the aircraft debris that washed ashore on Reunion Island (France) in the Indian Ocean belonged to the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.

Martin Dolan, head of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority, said: "We are increasingly certain that this debris is from MH370. We are still working with our French and Malaysian partners to analyze all the information. While we cannot confirm it definitively yet, we hope to be able to draw a conclusion within the next 24 hours."

On the same day, Mr. Dolan also dismissed any connection between a portion of luggage, discovered on July 30th on Reunion Island, and the ill-fated flight. Mr. Dolan stated: "To our understanding, at this point, there is virtually no reason (to assert that the package in question belongs to MH370). There is no clear indication that it was submerged in water for an extended period."

Debris believed to be from MH370 has been transported to Toulouse, France, for analysis.

Furthermore, with aircraft debris washing ashore on Reunion Island, which aligns with the search area, Australia confirms that the MH370 search operation is being conducted in the correct region.

Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, carrying 239 passengers and crew, disappeared while en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, China, in 2014.
