Australia is negotiating the sale of uranium to India.

In late July, India and Australia will hold a second round of negotiations on Australia's sale of uranium to India, aiming towards a civilian nuclear agreement.

Speaking to reporters on July 13, Australian High Commissioner to India Peter Suckling said that the first round of negotiations, which took place last March, had made progress toward a nuclear cooperation agreement.

According to him, this agreement will ensure that uranium is used only for peaceful purposes with safe regulations under the auspices of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

In other news, Indian Minister for Human Resource Development Pallam Raju and Australian Minister for Higher Education Kim Carr held their annual ministerial dialogue on India-Australia education cooperation in Sydney on July 12.

On this occasion, Australia announced the allocation of US$10 million, drawn from the Australia-India Strategic Research Fund (AISRF), for collaborative research projects between the two countries.
