Reigning Serie A champions Juventus were completely helpless against Atletico's frustrating style of play and suffered a 0-1 defeat at the Vicente Calderon stadium.

The only goal of the match was scored by Arda Turan in the 75th minute. The Turkish midfielder tapped the ball in from close range after a precise cross from Juanfran on the right wing. Earlier, Atletico had two penalty opportunities when Vidal and Caceres handled the ball inside Juventus' penalty area.

The victory against Juventus puts Atletico back in the race for a place in the round of 16. The defending runners-up now have three points, the same as their rivals in Group A: Juventus, Malmo, and Olympiakos. This is also a welcome gift for coach Simeone's return to the dugout after the Argentinian strategist's coaching ban ended.

Atletico and Juventus are both teams with a solid defensive style of play and prioritize control of the game. This makes the match a real battle as both sides focus on preventing the opponent from scoring before thinking about attacking.

The first half was very intense with a series of fouls forcing the referee to blow the whistle. Neither team created any truly dangerous chances towards the opponent's goal. The most promising moment was Mandzukic's quick shot from outside the 16-yard box, forcing Buffon to make a diving save.

Atletico, playing at home, still employed their usual tactics when facing big teams. Coach Simeone's players deliberately ceded possession to their opponents and relied on counter-attacks and set pieces. Atletico's pressing and tight man-marking proved effective, as Juventus, despite having more possession, were completely ineffective in attack.

In the first half alone, there were 25 fouls, fragmenting the game and preventing both teams from executing truly fluid passing sequences. The midfield was the most fiercely contested area, and every time the ball was lost, a foul was immediately committed to prevent counter-attacks. Vidal, Pogba, and Lichsteiner of Juventus frequently fouled Gabi, Tiago, and Arda Turan of the home team.

Coach Max Allegri deployed Tevez wide as an attacking midfielder to stretch Atletico's defense, but the Argentine star's efforts did not improve Juventus's game. Striker Llorente was completely ineffective due to a lack of support from his teammates. Juventus' most dangerous opportunity came from an Atletico defender with a clearance that hit the post.

Juventus were unable to attack effectively, but they compensated by defending well against Atletico's offensive moves. In the latter half of the second half, the Italian team seemed to deliberately retreat into defense in an attempt to secure a draw away from home. However, this abandonment of control of the game put Juventus under more pressure and indirectly created opportunities for Atletico to score.

After conceding a goal, Juventus tried to push forward by bringing on strikers Morata and Giovinco. However, the introduction of this pair did not help the visitors, as Atletico proved cunning in their time-wasting tactics. The frustration of the Juventus players led to them receiving four consecutive yellow cards in the final minutes of the match.
